The testimonies by the Livedoor persons concerned were completely finished today at Horiemon's 20th day of hearings.
I talked over the radio about the 20 days of hearings, and it was time to reward myself...

Drinking with a younger colleague, I asked myself, am I supposed to think seriously of my organization's future!? It might be too late, but I surely want to give it a try!

２０日分の公判についてラジオで話したんで、自分にご褒美を与える時が来た…
これを…そう、いつものように焼肉とキムチチゲで自分を満足させるのだ！
後輩と飲んで、自分に言い聞かせていたんだが、自分の組織の将来についてマジメに考えないといけないのかな！？遅すぎるかも知れないけど、やってみないといけないなって思うけどね！

Like a weekday!?

タイトル：まるで平日のよう！？

It didn't rain today, by the way...
And as I woke up about two hours later than planned, I first went out to get a haircut and then took my car out to Hibiya Park just like these recent weekends.
Working from 2 o'clock to nearly 10 o'clock... Hey! That's just like a weekday!
Well maybe not... I work at least 6 more hours than a today on weekdays...

And look at the parking fee!

予定より２時間ほど遅く目が覚めて、まず散髪に行って、そしてここ最近の週末と同じように車で日比谷公園に行った。
２時から１０時近くまで働いて…おい！まるで平日やんか！
いや違うかも…平日なら今日より最低でもさらに６時間は働くな…。

At the press club, I watched the Emperor's Cup (Autumn) on TV.

As many others, believing it was Hokkaido week, as the Nippon Ham Fighters took the championship, I took my bets on Hokkaido's Cosmo Bulk.

it was the other 5 yr. old colts that overtook the others including Cosmo Bulk (No. 8 )...
Daiwa Major (No. 14) the Satsuki Sho winner of 2004, wrapped up his second 2000 meter GI victory, and an underdog, Swift Current (No. 10) sneaked into the runner-up position, leaving Cosmo Bulk behind, who finished 4th.
3 yr. old Admire Moon (No. 15) finished 3rd and the most favorite Sweep Tosho (No. 7) finished 5th.
The 5 year olds are at their peak now. Let's see how they match up with Deep at the Japan Cup!

記者クラブで、天皇賞（秋）をテレビで観戦。
他のたくさんの人と同じように、日ハムが王者になって、北海道ウィークに違いないと信じていたんで、北海道のコスモバルクに賭けた。

It's getting colder each day, and though it was still barely warm enough today, with the rain coming overnight, the temperature could drop drastically.

I took my bike to a nearby library, and took the train to go to the movies.
I was able to find the book I needed for the Livedoor trials, and was able to watch "World Trade Center".
Satisfied enough!?

日に日に寒くなってきている。きょうは辛うじてまだ暖かかったが、今夜の雨で気温はガクッと下がる可能性がある。
自転車に乗って近くの図書館に行って、さらに電車に乗って、映画館に。

At night, I was supposed to go to my office to continue my work, but fully fed with the movie with a serious theme, not taking into account I was running around near the torn down WTC 5 days after it fell 5 years ago as a reporter, I had no power left to go on with business.

仕事をやらないといけないプレッシャーにさらされると、いつもテレビ鑑賞に逃げてしまう！

Finally, it could be coming for mobile phones...
Thanks to Softbank (former Vodafone Japan), NTT Docomo and KDDI are challenged to think seriously of a price cut.
From today the Japanese mobile phone owners can change carriers without changing phone numbers. The proper lingo for it is "mobile number portability (MNP)" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_number_portability) like "wireless local number portability (WLNP)" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_number_portability) in the United States.

ようやく、携帯電話にもやってきたかも…。
ソフトバンク（旧ボーダフォンジャパン）のおかげで、ＮＴＴドコモとＫＤＤＩが真剣に値下げを考えないといけない立場に追い込まれた。
今日から日本の携帯電話所持者は電話番号を変えずにキャリアを変えられる。正しい用語は「携帯番号ポータビリティ（ＭＮＰ）」で、アメリカの「ワイヤレス番号ポータビリティ（ＷＬＮＰ）」のようなもの。

I own a NTT Docomo right now, but I'm really tempted to go for a change if they're not seeking a price cut. I hope they realize they're finally in the age of warring mobile phone carriers.

◆ Ex-Fukushima Gov. Sato arrested over payoff scandal
TOKYO, Oct. 23 KYODO
Tokyo public prosecutors arrested former Fukushima Gov. Eisaku Sato on Monday for his suspected involvement in a payoff scandal over a dam construction project the prefectural government had ordered, the prosecutors said.
Sato, 67, is charged with bribe-taking benefits from Mizutani Kensetu Co., a subcontractor in the project, as the company paid in excess of 970 million yen to purchase land from a menswear maker run by the governor's brother, Yuji, 63, from August to September 2002.
The deal between Mizutani Kensetsu, based in Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, and the brother's company, was made apparently as a reward to the governor's side for allegedly helping a joint venture to win the dam project in a public tender.
The joint venture of Maeda Corp., a Tokyo-based major contractor currently called Nissan Rinkai Construction Co., and a local constructor won the project at some 20.6 billion yen in bidding in August 2000.
The brother, who has been indicted over a bid rigging in a separate public works project was served a fresh arrest warrant Monday for alleged conspiracy with the former governor in the payoff scandal.
The former governor is a major shareholder of the menswear maker, Santo Suit, and had been a director of the company until May 2002.
The suspected briber is former Mizutani Kensetsu Chairman Isao Mizutani, 61, but a three-year statute of limitations has already expired on the briber's side. Mizutani has been inducted on a corporate tax evasion charge.
Maeda extended 400 million yen of loans to Santo Suit in 2001. Santo Suit paid back the debts through the profit of the land deal in question.
While Maeda officials told investigators it lent the money to Yuji as a reward for his support for winning the bidding, Yuji has denied his involvement and elder Sato's in the alleged payoff scandal, investigative sources said.
Sato resigned last month after his younger brother was arrested.
Yuji Sato was already indicted for prearranging contractor bids to help a joint venture led by Tokyu Construction Co. win the contract for a public sewage project the Fukushima prefectural government had ordered, urging other participants to offer higher prices in the bidding in August 2004.
After serving as a House of Councillors member, the elder Sato won the gubernatorial seat in 1988 and was in his fifth straight four-year term when he stepped down.

I woke up at 1400 hrs.
Time to bet and watch the third crown race, Kikkasho (GI).

We all knew Yutaka Take's Admire Main was going to take a big lead...
He actually did lead the race till the last furlong and all we needed was the colts staying in the back to overwhelm as forecasted...
But it wasn't the double crown horse, nor the winner of the preliminary race that conquered...

it was Yutaka's younger brother Koshiro Take's underdog colt Song Of Wind that won the last crown... double crown horse Meisho Samson finished 4th and the winner of the preliminary race and 3rd at the Derby, Dream Passport finished 2nd... Yutaka's Admire Main, the runner-up of the Derby finished 3rd...
oh no... no payback again...

１４時に目が覚めた。
３冠目の菊花賞（ＧＩ）に賭けて、レースを見る時間だ。
みんな武豊のアドマイヤメインが大逃げを打つことは知っていた…。
実際、彼は最後の１ハロンまでリードを奪っていて、あとは予想通り後ろの方にいる若駒たちが圧倒してくれれば…
でもレースを支配したのは、２冠馬でも無く、トライアルの優勝馬でも無かった…

I don't remember what time I went to bed, but I think I had enough sleep today.
After waking up at around 1:30PM, I went to the west exit of Shinjuku Station to talk to the plaintiff of the Tokyo Air Pollution Lawsuit campaigning for support giving out bills to people walking by.

何時に寝たか覚えてないけど、十分眠れたと思う。
午後１時半ごろに起きた後、新宿駅西口に出掛けて、通行人にビラを配る東京大気汚染訴訟の原告に話を聞きに行った。

Back at home... from 4PM to 8:30PM, I had been attacked by the sandman again.

After waking up I just watched to TV...
I didn't really care about the Nippon Series, so I decided to watch a drama serial, a Japanese movie, and the Monday Night NFL game I had recorded.
Too bad the Cards (not the Cards going to the World Series!) couldn't hold on to a 20 point lead over the undefeated Bears. It seems to be evident that the NFC champs will be the Bears (6-0) and the my favorite 49ers (2-4) are going to play them at Week 8. And the Cards' only win (1-5) was against the 49ers! Damn... I'll just hope for some kind of miracle to take place!

家に戻ったら…午後４時から８時半まで、再び睡魔に襲われた。

起きた後、とにかくテレビを見てた…
日本シリーズのことは興味なかったんで、連ドラと、邦画と、そして録画しておいたマンデー・ナイトのＮＦＬの試合を見ることにした。
カーディナルズ（ワールドシリーズに行くカーディナルズではなくて）が無敗のベアーズに対して２０点差を守れなかったのは残念だね。ベアーズ（６勝０敗）がＮＦＣのチャンピオンになることは明らかだが、贔屓のフォーティナイナーズ（２勝４敗）が第８週で対戦するんだよね。しかもカーディナルズの唯一の勝利（１勝５敗）ってフォーティナイナーズからなんだよね！くそ…。何か奇跡でも起きてくんねぇかな！

First about myself...
Last night after I had drinks with my boss and an attorney at law, I made it home at around 0:30 boozed with enough shaoxing wine.
I started to fill up the bath tub so I can pull out some of the alcohol soaked in my body, but... I somehow ended up on my bed, and the time I realized I had slept, it was 7AM already... Letting the hot water pour for 6 hours and a half!!
What a major goof up!!
Oh... I'm so afraid to see the water bill and the gas bill...

まず自分について…
昨夜、上司と弁護士さんと飲んだ後、紹興酒にかなり酔って０時半に家にたどり着いた。
体からアルコールを抜くために、風呂に水を入れ始めた、でも…なぜかベッドの上に転がっていた。そして眠っていたことに気付いた時、もう午前７時だった…お湯を６時間半も流しっぱなし！！
大失態だ！！
あー…水道料金とガス代の請求書を見るのはとっても怖いね…

PARIS (AP) - "Deep Impact", le cheval classé troisième du Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe il y a deux semaines, a été contrôlé positif à un produit interdit à l'issue de la course et il risque la disqualification. France Galop, l'association qui dirige les courses hippiques sous la tutelle du ministère de l'Agriculture, a annoncé avoir ouvert une enquête.

"Le prélèvement a été effectué à l'issue de l'Arc de Triomphe. Un produit prohibé, l'ipratropium, a été trouvé dans les prélèvements", a précisé à l'Associated Press Henri Pouret, commissaire de France Galop en charge des dossiers concernant chevaux et jockeys. "Le premier contrôle a eu lieu en France, puis le Jockey Club de Hong Kong a confirmé la présence de cette substance".

Conformément au code des courses, France Galop a ouvert une enquête. Elle est actuellement conduite par un vétérinaire en France et au Japon où le cheval est basé. Cette enquête consiste en l'audition des personnes ayant approché le cheval, de son entraîneur jusqu'au groom.

Au terme de cette enquête qui pourrait être bouclée à la mi-novembre, les commissaires de France Galop appelleront le propriétaire et l'entraîneur pour examiner le dossier. "Une décision sera alors prise au vu des éléments du dossier", indique Henri Pouret.

Si le dopage est avéré, le cheval risque selon la terminologie "le distancement", à savoir son déclassement de l'épreuve, avec les répercussions financières pour le propriétaire. L'entraîneur risque des sanctions, notamment une amende.

L'ipratropium est un broncodilatateur qui agit sur le régime respiratoire du cheval.

"Il ressort des premiers éléments de l'enquête que la santé du cheval a justifié l'administration de ce traitement", indique Henri Pouret. "Mais un cheval qui court ne doit pas receler de substances prohibées. L'explication thérapeutique n'est donc pas justifiée".

The last of the four former executives of Livedoor appearing to testify today. If the first stage of this trial is Horiemon's first day of hearings, we were in the second stage from the second day of hearings with the testimonies made by the former exectutives, but today, the second stage was also practically over... practically... And it's probobly not a coincidence that the prosecuters will give out their concluding speech against the four tomorrow, as their time is up to ask for a forgiving sentence before the judge. (Well, they will be given one last chance right before the conclusion of the hearings for them next month.)
Meanwhile, Horiemon's trial will continue on, and we will step up to the next critical stage when the questioning of Horiemon himself begins on November 7th. Before this month is over, we still have four more days of hearings, but it won't be too exciting... I think...

ホリエモンの１６日目の公判に出た。
今日は４人の元幹部の最後の１人が登場した。この裁判のファーストステージがホリエモンの初公判だとすれば、２日目からは元幹部たちの証言が始まり、セカンドステージに入っていた。でもきょう、そのセカンドステージも事実上終わった…事実上ね…。そして図ったかのようにあした、検察側が４人に対して論告を行う。彼らが裁判官の前で寛大な刑をお願いする時間は尽きた。（まぁ、来月の結審の前に最後の機会を与えられるけどね。）
その間に、ホリエモンの公判は続き、ホリエモン自身の質疑が始まる１１月７日から次の重要なステージに上がる。今月が終わる前に、まだ４日も公判がある。あまり盛り上がりはしないけどね…たぶん…。

Another stressful day, starting to get sick again of doing this job for various reasons.

Covering Horiemon's 15th day of hearings from the morning. I always skip lunch when I have to attend an all-day trial, because I can easily fall into sleep at the bench.
It's the best time of year outside, but ironically it's the worst at the grand bench as the air conditioning is cut off from October, and with so many people seated inside, the heat just stays around.
And at night we had to cover Mr. Yoshiaki Murakami's (better known with "of Murakami Fund") first consultation of the pre-trial procedures at the Tokyo District Court.

またストレスがたまる日で、たくさんの理由でこの仕事をやるのがイヤになり始める。
あー、どうしてかは聞かないで。
朝からホリエモンの１５日目の公判を取材した。一日中裁判を傍聴しないと行けない時はいつも昼食を抜く。だって傍聴席であっさり寝ちゃうからね。
外は一年で最も良い時期なんだけど、皮肉にも大法廷では最悪だ。１０月からエアコンは切られ、たくさんの人が中にいるんで、暖気がこもってしまうんだ。
夜になって、村上世彰氏（「村上ファンドの」とした方が知られてるね）の公判前手続きの第１回協議が東京地裁で開かれたのを取材しなければならなかった。
