quake of M6.0 at 4:35 PM with trembling scale of 5 plus in Adachi Ward of Tokyo
I was supposed to have a pleasant time eating tasty sushi this evening, as I had been invited by an elder friend in Suginami saying he had secured enough fresh fish to have a pleasant sushi party at his home.
...Well everything was spoiled as a quake hit the Kanto area, with the northern part of Tokyo recording a Japanese shaking scale of 5 plus, and with many more areas having trembles of scale 5 minus. Many railways were stopped and I scrambled to my office to throw myself into the crisis mode. The magnitude of the quake was a moderate M6.0 in the Richter Scale but the Kanto area seemed to have rocked quite a bit with some panicking and many delays in transportation reported.
BUT this time it turned out to be not as bad as expected, as it has been said a great quake of more than M6.9 could hit the Kanto area at anytime and I feel uneasy that a great earthquake that is more than 20 times stronger (0.2 more magnitude on the Richter scale doubles the energy of the quake; so a M6.9 quake is 2 times 2 times 2 times root 2 = about 22 times more energy than a M6.0 quake) than today's could easily damage our vulnerable city.
...The best way to save our lives could be leaving the capital city, as I can't trust the strength of the metropolitan area against shakes as I always feel any old building filling central Shibuya or Shinjuku could collapse with a strong quake. We could even get killed by windows breaking with all the glass falling on us just like what happened in Fukuoka City in the M7.0 quake in March.
It's impossible to rebuild all the structures, and it's ridiculous to tell everyone they must do something about it as no one really believes a big quake can hit us. And they could be right as we could get lucky and have no such quakes till we die, but that's just pure luck and who knows if you'd be in a old building having a drink or seeing a customer, even though you could be living in a strong house.
I wish today's quake has raised consciousness of many to rethink what is most important to them. Yes, we must also be careful about crime and diseases, and of course our economy. But with more interest in disasters, at least we all would be walking in the same direction caring to build a stronger city (or at least not saying no to using money for that purpose) which any foreigner would feel safe to visit and invest upon. In return we will become more prosperous.
Safety first, then we all shall flourish!!

今夜は美味しい寿司を食べながら快適な時間を過ごしているはずだった。杉並に住む年上の友人が寿司パーティを催すための新鮮な魚を確保できたと家に招待してくれていたからだ。
…まぁすべては関東地区を襲った地震でパーになったんだけどね。地震で東京の北部で震度５強が記録され、さらに広い範囲で震度５弱だった。数多くの電車が 止まり、職場に緊急発進して、緊急体制の中に飛び込んだ。地震の規模はあまり大きくないマグニチュード６．０だったが、関東地区はかなり揺れたように感じ られた。ちょっと混乱があって、交通麻痺が伝えられた。
でも、今回は予想されたより大したことはなかったんだ。関東地区ではいつでもマグニチュード６．９以上の大きな地震が起きると言われていて、きょうの２０ 倍以上の規模になる大地震（リヒタースケールでマグニチュードが０．２増えると、地震の規模が２倍になる。だからマグニチュード６．９の地震はマグニ チュード６．０の地震の２×２×ルート２＝ほぼ２２倍のエネルギーを持つ）がこの弱そうな街を簡単に壊しそうなのが不安で仕方がない。
…首都を離れることが命を守る最善の方法かも知れない。首都圏の揺れへの対応力は信用できないし、渋谷や新宿の中心部を埋め尽くす古い建物は強い地震で ぶっ倒れそうだしね。窓が壊れてガラスが自分たちの上に落ちてきて殺されることさえ有りかも知れない。福岡で３月に起きたＭ７．０の地震の時のように。
すべての建造物を建て直すことは不可能だし、みんなに何かしなければならないと伝えるのも馬鹿げている。誰も大きな地震があるとマジで信じてないから。し かもそれは正しいことかも知れない。幸運にも死ぬまでにそんな地震は起きないかもしれないのだから。でもそれは幸運以外の何ものでもない。しっかりとした 家に住んでいても、古い建物の中で飲んでたり、客に会ってたりしててもおかしくないんだから。
きょうの地震が多くの人たちの意識を高めて、何が一番大切か改めて考えてくれたらと願う。そう、確かに犯罪や病気などについても気を付けなければならな い。勿論、経済についても。でも災害への関心が高まれば、より強い街を作ろうという同じ方向に歩き始められるんだし（少なくともそういう目的でお金を使う ことに反対しないように）。どんな外国人も訪れたり、投資したりするのに安全だと思う街を。その結果、さらに繁栄できるじゃないか。
安全第一、そうすればみんなが栄えるじゃないか！！
