At Akasaka, I went out to have some drinks to celebrate my boss' promotion with elder bureaucrats, now in charge of our nation's policies.
It's a pleasure to drink with professionals, which I have the freedom to taste being a reporter in the center of our nation.
赤坂で上司の昇進を祝うために、今わが国の政策づくりを担当している役所の年長者たちと飲みに行った。
プロフェッショナルと飲むのは愉快だ。我々の国の中心で記者をやっていると自由に味わえる楽しみだ。

But the elders all blame me, being a bachelor ambitious enough to do anything...

おいおい、結構厳しいんだぜ。人生で最初で最後のコは一度っきりしか遇わねぇんだから。ツイてりゃ二度かな！一生懸命働いたらみんな幸せになれるなんて単なる迷信になっちまうぜ…。

Well, but nothing changes... all I can hope for is to be happy in life as long as I have the opportunity to accomplish something!
