The Upper House turned down the JP reform bill and the PM continued on to dissolve the Lower House...

It's supposed to be a historical day. A Lower House election coming up in consequence of an Upper House decision. But it doesn't feel historical.
Why? Maybe because it seemed like a mere quarrel in a hall. Not a serious feud between the two large parties, nor an appealing battle to the public... just a mere quarrel among the LDP...
I didn't even notice DPJ's existence! I thought the DPJ was going to take hold of power after the general election scheduled for September 11th, but I'm not sure any more.
The media will look for pictures that can earn numbers, trying to catch Mr. Koizumi's moves first, and then his rivals in rage, the Kamei family and friends. ...And the DPJ and other parties will be after all of that.
I think the public is interested in the claim-to-be-rebel Koizumi battling the Dark Side outdated LDP tradition. DPJ? Hmm... NOT a rebel, NOT a tradition... NOT what the Japanese public want at least for now...
To be honest, I've always voted for the Democrats, as I'd like to see a big change in regime and reform. (AND I've felt some intimacy in the "Democrats" as a kid raised in California ...which has nothing to with the Democratic Party of Japan though...)
We always have a nickname for the dissolving of the Lower House. Some politicians call today's the "JP reform dissolving", or the "reckless dissolving".
I personally would like to call it the "Star Wars dissolving". Unfortunately the match between the Dietmen doesn't seem spectacular as Luke and Darth Vader's, but I think this leader trying to be a Jedi and the rivals that can bear being called the Dark Side can gather enough enthusiasm from the public.
I was watching the votes go in on several channels. TV Asahi's coverage was the best as it was counting live which LDP traitor had voted against the bill. Mr. Koizumi's defeat was evident way before the formal count.
As I was trying to see how CNN will handle Japan's top news, news about the change in Shuttle's arrival time and the death of Peter Jennings came in. Jennings along with Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw were around for so long, ever since I was starting to watch the news shows in the States as a small kid, and I didn't even know his age! A great anchorman he was with the other two... A predecessor too far away for me... Mediamen never get a chance to sleep well. NOW PLEASE REST IN PEACE...

参院が郵政改革法案を否決し、続いて首相が国会を解散した…。

歴史的な日になるはずだった。参院の決断のせいで、衆院で選挙が行われるのだ。でもなぜか歴史的に思えなかった。
どうしてだろう？何か集会場でのつまらないけんかに見えたからかも知れない。２大政党間の真剣勝負でもなく、国民の胸に訴えるような戦いでもない…。自民党同士の単なる口げんかのようだ…。
民主党なんてその存在さえ気づかなかった！９月１１日に予定されている総選挙で民主党が政権を取ると思ったが、自信がなくなってきた。
メディアは視聴率を取れる絵を探すだろう。まず小泉氏の動きをとらえて、そして怒りのライバルたち、亀井ファミリーと仲間たち。…民主党とその他の政党はそのすべてが終わったあとだ。
国民の興味は慣習に反抗者と主張する小泉とダークサイドの時代遅れな自民党の伝統の戦いだと思う。民主党？うーむ…。反抗者でもないし、伝統でもない…。いまは、日本国民が必要としているものではない…。
正直言うと、いつも民主に投票してきた。政権に大きな違いを見たいし、改革を見たかったからだ。（カリフォルニアで育てられた子供として「民主」には少し親しみも感じるし…日本の民主党には全く関係ないけど…）
衆院を解散するときにいつもあだ名が付く。何人かの政治家はきょうのを「郵政改革解散」と言ったり、「やけっぱち解散」と言ったりしている。
個人的には「スターウォーズ解散」って呼びたいんだけど。残念ながら政治家同士の戦いはルークとダースベーダーのほど壮観じゃないけど。でも、このジェダ イになろうとしているリーダーとダークサイドと言われてはばからないライバルたちは十分に国民を熱狂させられるんじゃないかな。
写真：いくつかのチャンネルで票数が出るのを見ていた。テレ朝の中継が一番良かった。どの自民党議員の裏切り者が法案に反対票を投じたかも生で数えていたからだ。小泉さんの敗北は正式な勘定のずいぶん前から明らかだった。
ＣＮＮが日本にとってのトップニュースをどう扱うか見ようとしていたら、シャトルの到着時間が変わったことと、ピーター・ジェニングスさん死去のニュース が入ってきた。ジェニングスさんはダン・ラザーさんやトム・ブロコウさんらとともにあまりにも長い歳月活躍していたから。俺がちっちゃなガキのころに ニュース番組を見始めていたころからね。だから彼の年さえも知らなかったよ！すごいアンカーマンだったよね。他の２人とともに…。俺にとっては遠すぎる大 先輩だね…。メディアマンはゆっくり寝ることが絶対にできない。どうぞ、安らかにお休みください…。

別にいま始まった話じゃない。
総裁選からいがみ合ってた人たちだ。
だから裏切りも何も無いかもしれない。
気になるのは、民主党の埋没だ。
変に自民の自爆に付き合って、
改革を求める政策をぼやかさなければいいが。
それこそ、支持者への裏切りだ。
ま、と言っても、今回は自民の選挙なのかな。
