Haneda panic!!

Just as we were thinking about which pleasant meal we should run for on lunchtime, a flash news of Haneda Airport's paralyses came in.
We were all caught off guard, as a plane crash was more of what we were thinking of when a crisis mode would be switched on concerning airlines (though we all felt relieved today's accident had no signs of crashes).

The nationwide flights of Haneda Airport, the heart of Japan's domestic transportation, were suspended from about 11:30 AM to around 12:30PM as there was a power failure that stopped the air traffic control systems, which are necessities for the planes to fly out and land.
We all jumped to our phones and asked wherever possible for any information that would lead to the restoring of air traffic. I was luckily one of the first to hear that the radar system was restored at around 12:23 PM and the landing of flights were proceeding.
Phew...

Later on we learned that the power failure was traced to a careless error by engineers and the airport staff of not noticing the switch into the emergency power line. With this mistake, more than 80 thousand passengers were affected.

...Very scary!
Just like people working for transportation agencies which could kill hundreds instantly with a simple error, people working for the media like me could also affect millions with one mistake.

You know, this ought to be some kind of warning to us, too...

きょうは昼食時にどの美味いメシにありつこうかとちょうど考えている頃に、羽田空港の麻痺状態についての速報が入ってきた。
油断しているところつかれた。航空機について緊急モードにスイッチが入るのは飛行機が墜落するときだと考えていたから（でもきょうの事故が墜落につながりそうに無かったことを見てみんなホッとしてたけどね）。

日本の国内交通の心臓部である羽田からの国内線は午前１１時半ごろから午後零時半ごろまで運行停止になった。飛行機が離着陸するのに必要な航空交通管制システムが動かなくなる停電が起きたからだ。
みんな電話に飛びかかって、航空交通が復旧することにつながる情報が無いか聞けそうなところに聞きまくった。ラッキーなことにレーダーシステムが午後零時２３分頃に復旧して航空機の着陸が始まっていたことを早い段階でつかんだ１人になった。
ふ～…。

後から停電は技術者や空港職員たちが非常電源に切り替わっていることに気づかなかったという単純ミスが原因だったと分かった。このミスで８万人以上の乗客に影響が出た。

…とても怖いね！
簡単なミスであっと言う間にたくさんの人を死に至らせることができる交通関連機関で働く人たちのように、俺みたいにメディアで働く人たちも一つの間違いで何百万人の人たちに影響を及ぼすことができる。

あのね、これは俺たちに対する警告でもあったんだよ、きっと…。
