Looking for a true showdown

タイトル：真剣勝負を求めて

We don't want any logrolling, but a real decisive battle between the immature politicians that ain't a question of whether the Koizumi LDP retains control or DPJ sensation would start a new regime...
We want to see a showdown that would lead to ripe politics that many voters would want to participate in.

It's so easy to talk about dreams of idealism, but the political level of our country is far behind and life ain't that simple...
As a reporter I've always had an idealistic way of covering our lives, and if politics were in a level I've dreamed of, I'd have preferred to be a reporter of our Politics Section...

I'm full awake from fake idealism and hope this election would be at least something of a start of a ripen political world.
Reform and conservatism balanced to become a true democracy!

Am I too pessimistic about our political status?
No, I'm really hopeful that the electorate will wake up and play the true leading part of our well-being!!

なれ合いなんていらない。未熟な政治家たちによる真剣で決定的な対決が見たい。これは小泉自民が政権を維持するのか、民主旋風が新しい政権を立てるのかという問題以前の話だ…。
成熟した政治につながるような対決がみたいんだ。有権者が参加したくなるような。

理想を語るのは簡単だが、うちの国の政治ってかなり遅れてるし、暮らしってそんなに単純なものじゃない…。
記者として人々の暮らしについて取材する理想は持ってきたつもりだけど、もし政治が自分が夢見るようなレベルにあったのなら、政治部の記者になりたかったと思っただろうな…。

偽物の理想からは思いっきり目が覚めちゃってるので、今回の選挙がせめて熟した政治の世界の始まりであってほしい。
改革と保守がバランス良く混じって、真の民主制となるように！

政治について悲観的すぎるのかな？
いや、有権者が目を覚まして、我々の幸福を実現するための真の主役にきっとなるって、かなりの期待をしてるんだよ！！

well-being　安寧、幸福、権利、健康
　人の幸福って政治は関係ないと思うかも知れない。
　確かに恋をしたり、美味しいものを食べたり、
　欲しいものを買ったりするのは
　政治に関係ないように思えるかも知れない。
　でも恋をして結婚すること、食べた美味しいものに
　何が入ってるのか、欲しいものを買うためのお金、
　全部、政策も微妙に絡んでくる。
　晩婚化が進む背景にある厚生労働分野、
　食べ物についていい加減さが分かってきた農水分野、
　税金や年金はどうなるのか財政分野、
　政治家がやらないといけないことは腐るほどある。
　そして俺たち記者も…。

This night I had drinks with a JSDF colonel I was together at Kuwait a year and half ago when the Japanese forces were dispatched to the Middle East.
I couldn't make it to Iraq, but talking again with one of the history makers, I realized again how lucky I was to be chosen to cover the story.
The troops are still in the town of Samawa in southern Iraq... I hope I can participate in the follow-up reportings!!

追伸（３１日に追記）
この夜、１年半前に日本の部隊が中東に派遣されたときにクウェートでご一緒した自衛隊の１佐と飲んだ。
イラクに行くことはできなかったが、歴史を作った一人と再び話をして、取材者として選ばれたことはラッキーだったと改めて実感した。
部隊はまだイラク南部の町、サマワにいる…。今後も続報取材に参加したいもんだ！！
