Admire Fuji, No. 14 was not so spirited today... Passed by Kamo-gawa River full of couples at the riverbed as always... jumped into the familiar Nagahama style Ramen shop... Thin noodles and my favorite tonkotsu flavor soup... and some Guiness!
Here I was again in Kyoto, dancing vividly around the race course in Yodo district. The weather was stinky till morning, but it turned out to be a wonderful one!
And there was my pal, Admire Fuji once again in the main race, this time at its last chance to win a ticket to the Nippon Derby. Don't wanna talk about the result, as all I can say is this year's Derby will not be too exciting for me without any of my favorites on the board, and an already given winner.
But that's not why I go see these profound creatures. Not just with the wisdom and nobleness like in Guilliver's Travels, they're just beautiful when they ride so fast around the tracks. When I see their strides at full speed, they give me vigor, telling me I should pep up my soul and go for the kill as well.
Fuji ended up third with a chance of running at the Derby slipping out of hands. (

But the long spurt from the last position at the fourth corner was magnificent. Hey, I know we can't play in the Center Court, but we should never give up, right? At least the innocent colt didn't give up until the last second. Another lesson learned at the race course.
OK. So no need to get depressed. Hopped on the train and went straight to Sanjo Kiyamachi. After crossing the all familiar Kamo-gawa River, jumped into the Ramen shop I ate perhaps more than a hundred times in my college days. The Kyushu tonkotsu flavor (=pork bone based soup) Nagahama style Ramen was 600 yen per bowl which is a hundred yen higher than 14 years ago, but the taste hasn't changed so much.
It was still 5 o'clock but me and my friend jumped into a Irish bar finishing off with a pint of Guiness and a couple of Irish whisky. Hmm... I think I was doing the same things a little more than a decade ago. My Kyoto is still a heavenly place for me. Hope I can work here someday in my life again!
タイトル：あきらめないと誓う！
写真：１４番のアドマイヤフジはあんまり元気がなかった…。 鴨川を渡ったが、河川敷は相変わらずカップルだらけ…。懐かしい長浜ラーメン屋に飛び込んだ…。細麺に大好きな豚骨系…。そしてギネスね！
また京都にきた。淀の競馬場で生き生きと跳ね回っていた。朝まで辛気くさかった天気も素晴らしい天気に変わった。
メーンレースにはまたダチのアドマイヤフジがいた。今度は日本ダービーの出走権を取るのに背水の陣をしいていた。結果についてはあまり話したくないが、と りあえず言えることは今年は個人的にはあんまりわくわくするようなダービーじゃないってことかな。好きな馬が一頭も出走できなさそうだし、すでに勝ち馬が 決まってるしね。
でもそれがこの奥深い生き物たちを見に行く理由じゃない。ガリバー旅行記に出てくるような賢さと気高さだけでなく、コースを疾走する姿は美しいとしか言いようがない。全力疾走で闊歩するところを見ると、元気が湧く。心を盛り上げて、俺たちみたいに目標を仕とめてみろと語りかけてくれる。
フジは３着だった。これでダービーに出走するチャンスは失われた。でも第４コーナーで最後位から長いスパートをかけてきたのはすごかった。まぁ、俺たちは センターコートでプレーすることができないのは分かってるけど、あきらめたらいけないんだよね？少なくともあどけない若駒は最後まであきらめなかった。ま た競馬場で一つ学習させてもらいました。
さて、意気消沈する必要はないわな。電車に飛び乗って三条木屋町に直行。見慣れた鴨川を超えて、大学時代に１００回以上通ったラーメン屋に入った。九州の豚骨系、長浜ラーメンは一杯６００円と、１４年前に比べて１００円高かったが、味はそれほど変わってなかった。
まだ５時だったが、友達とアイリッシュ・バーに入って、ギネスのパイント一杯と何杯かのアイリッシュ・ウイスキーで締めくくった。うーん。同じようなことを１０年以上前にもやってた気がする。俺の京都はまだ天国みたいなとこだ。いつかここで仕事ができたらいいな。

単純に訳せば「殺しに行く」ってことになりますが、
戦争、そして相手がいるスポーツでよく使うフレーズですね。
相手を戦闘不能にしてしまうほどの一撃を加えることですが、
まぁ、競馬で他の馬たちをまとめて差し切るとき、一瞬背筋が
寒くなるようなときに、このようなフレーズを使いたくなる。
そういう差し馬が好きなんだよね。届かないときは悲しいけど…。
まぁ、まだまだこれからさ！ね？（誰に言ってるんだろ…）
