It was 1990 when I first ever knew of this gray horse, just after I graduated from high school and returned to Osaka to study for college entrance exams.
The first ever bet I made with my friends was for the Emperor's Cup (of Autumn), in which the most favorite Oguri Cap finished sixth. This wasn't the race that lured me to horse racing. It was the one the week after!
We made our revenge the next week betting on Mejiro McQueen an underdog to the favorite Mejiro Ryan. We didn't know if it was right to bet on the most favorite or an underdog, but McQueen surprisingly captured the last of the triple crown races, the Kikkasho!
Boy we were happy, and the horse just captured our hearts!
...And together with McQueen, my love for horse racing started!
この芦毛の馬を初めて知ったのは１９９０年。高校を卒業した直後で大阪に戻って大学入試に向けて勉強してたときだ。
ダチたちと初めて賭けたのが天皇賞（秋）。一番人気のオグリキャップが六着に終わったレースだ。競馬に引き込まれたのはこのレースのせいじゃない。その次の週のレースだ！
次の週、人気のメジロライアンより人気が無かったメジロマックイーンに賭けて俺たちはリベンジを果たした。一番人気に賭ければ良いのか穴馬に賭ければ良いのかその時は分からなかったが、マックイーンは最後の三冠レース、菊花賞の驚きの勝者となった！
いやぁ、嬉しかったなぁ。そしてこの馬が俺たちの心をつかんだ！
…そしてマックイーンと一緒に競馬へ愛情が始まった！

a dramatic horse winning the same race as his older brother, Mejiro Durren who also had won the Kikkasho, and also winning the Emperor's Cup (of Spring) just like his father, Mejiro Titan and grandfather Mejiro Asama!
Yutaka Take was on his back when he won both of his back to back victories in the 3200 meter Emperor's Cup (of Spring).

ドラマチックな馬だった。菊花賞を勝っていた兄、メジロデュレンと同じレースを勝って、さらに父のメジロティターンと祖父のメジロアサマと同じように天皇賞（春）を勝った！
３２００メートルの天皇賞（春）を連覇したときの鞍上は両方とも武豊だった。

I spent my springtime of my life watching this horse...
RIP, McQueen...
青春時代はこの馬を見て過ごした…
ゆっくりとお休み、マックイーン…。

It's so regretful that his offsprings have yet to win the Emperor's Cup...
まだ子供が天皇賞を勝ってないのがすごく悔やまれる…。
