Not for everybody... Most will take their vacation from the 3rd of May for a complete five-day holiday.
For me it will be a six-day holiday, as I will be taking Monday and Tuesday off, but going into overnight duty on Friday.
I was a little tired this couple of weeks, so I decided to go where I can RELAX!

Twenty years on from the Чернобыльская авария (Chernobyl Disaster).

I was still a kid in junior high when this happened...
bringing back memories... no shivers down the spine as I still didn't know how consequential it was...
never again shall this kinda hell occur...

We need nuclear energy to have our lights on...
to go on with our everyday lives...
We must try our best to keep an eye on the service to be safe...
but honestly... it's up to their GOOD WILL!!

Ah... REPEAT what I wrote yesterday!!
Accidents do happen under good faith...
but what is important... is what you do afterwards...
That's where the surveillance of the media comes crucial...
we must even go further... and rack our brains TO PREVENT!!

We have a bunch of nuclear plants in our country...
where rocking from earthquakes are likely...
ARE WE SAFE?
We don't want any kind of "Chernobyl" in Japan!

　タイトルでは、bona fidesを使ったが、
　本文では適所にgood willを。
　反語はbad faithやill will。

Much time and space was spared on the news shows and the papers to yesterday's victory by the DPJ at the election filling in a vacant Lower House seat in Chiba. The new leader Ozawa barely won his first bout, but was more powerful than the difference, as it was enough to show the LDP and PM Koizumi that the man is back.
But the decisive battle is still far away. The LDP has its own election this fall and the media will surely boost the party's exposure. The DPJ's victory this time has very likely been owing to the media's overexposure of its leader's election.
The unified local elections in the spring of 2007, and the Upper House eleciton that follows will be the decisive battlefields.
A critical year and a half it will be.
昨日の千葉の衆院補選で民主党が勝利したことについて紙面やニュース番組の時間やスペースの多くが割かれた。小沢新代表が辛うじて初戦を制したが、その差より迫力があった。自民党と小泉首相にあの男が戻ってきたというのに十分だったようだ。

◆320,000 affected as Tokyo trains disrupted over track trouble
TOKYO, April 24 KYODO
Train services on Tokyo's Yamanote loop lines, which connect major city centers in Tokyo, resumed full operation on Monday afternoon after stopping for about five hours due to an abnormality found on the tracks, according to East Japan Railway Co.
Some 320,000 passengers were affected as about 300 train runs on the Yamanote and two other JR lines were suspended. About 2,000 passengers on one stranded Yamanote Line train had to walk about 600 meters on the rail tracks to the nearest JR station at Takadanobaba.

An earthquake swarm under investigation!

A bunch of quakes irritating the Izu Area, one of the major tourist resorts in the east, right before the Golden Week coming after next week.
Maybe there will be no peace of mind this weekend to the people living in that area and ME... boo...

But it's better than a great earthquake hitting Tokyo, as that's what I was covering today, as the government's Central Disaster Management Council announced that the nation will try to curb the damage that will be caused by the disaster with a numerical target: To reduce by half, the number of the dead estimated to be 11,000 at its worst, to 5,600.
It shall not be tolerated if "it ends up a drawing of a rice cake" (meaning "to be nothing but a pie in the sky" or "wine in the bottle does not quench thirst")

But... never will there be time to feel at ease living in this city...

Going on location today.
Just about the time we were going to film, around 1:30 PM, the rain stopped and the sun came out... just magnificently!

So, I thought it was my lucky day, and Satsuki Sho was going to be mine!

Listening to the radio while were on the move, I found out it was far from being my day...

今日はロケに出た。
撮影を丁度始めようと思った午後１時半頃、雨が止んで太陽が出てきた…ほんと見事に！
だから、きょうはツイてる日やと思った。そして皐月賞は俺の物だと！
移動中にラジオを聞いてたら、ツイてる日にはほど遠いことが分かった…。

Meisho Samson and Dream Passport, who were 1st and 3rd in the Spring Stakes, easily left behind my favorite Fusaichi Richard, a runner up in the same race...
the most favorite of today's race, Admire Moon finished fourth, the 2nd favorite and undefeated Fusaichi Junk third... and Richard a disappointing fifth finish.

Today, a great star has fallen...
Prof. Osamu Hiroi, who started as a sociopsychologist, now being the leading expert on "disaster information", a new wave of studies widely spread by his great achievements as a commentator on the media.
He was the best man to trust when we wanted to talk about what information must be transmitted to the residents of disaster-endangered areas, especially to the "disaster vunerable", like the aged and the handicapped.
His proposals were also important to us, the media. He has helped many of my elder colleagues with his studies about evacuation from disasters and disaster warning, and a lot more for me and my collegues with his studies about supporing the victims of earthquakes and volcanic disasters.
本日、巨星墜つ…。
廣井脩教授。社会心理学者として歩み始め、今では「災害情報」の第一人者に。メディアでのコメンテーターとしての偉大な功績のおかげで大いに広められた新しい流れの学問だ。
災害の危険が及ぶ地域の住民、特にお年寄りや障害者などの「災害弱者」に対して、どのような情報が伝達されるべきかについて話をしたいときに一番頼りになる人だった。
先生の提案は私たちメディアにとっても大切なものだった。災害からの避難や災害への危険を知らせることについての研究は私たちの先輩方を数多く助けてきた。そして私や私の同僚たちも被災者支援や火山災害についての研究で助けられた。

When I first met him he was already a director of Tokyo University Institute of Socio-Information and Communication Studies, and listening to his stories about his brief stay at Palo Alto, California as a visiting researcher, which he recalled was the best days of his life, was the best I can do for him.
In return, he helped me a lot... giving me advices for special programs about the Tokai Earthquake and the Metropolitan Area Earthquake and he gladly accepted taking critical interviews for us.
Thank you Sensei. You really worked till your last minute for our nation... Now, I hope you can rest in peace up in heaven...
最初にお会いしたとき、もうすでに東京大学社会情報研究所の所長だった。そして先生が人生で一番の時期だったという、カリフォルニアのパロアルトで客員研究者として短く滞在していたときの話を聞くことが、俺がしてあげられるベストのことだった。
その代わり、色んな事で助けてくれたなぁ…東海地震や首都圏地震についての特別番組についてアドバイスをくれたし、重要なインタビューにも快く応じてくれた。
