Last day...

closing session of WCDR
There were no surprises at the Ohwada room of Portopia Hotel.
Everybody was happy with the document not filled with numbers of effective measures, but just consents of all the participating countries to consider disaster reductions as one of our priorities. Well yes. There are too much problems we have to solve everyday, and only when we are hit with deadly catastrophes we recognize the need for preparedness.
The Indian Ocean's tragedy truly upgraded everyone's interest in the conference, but the outcome was not so enticing. At least we all could agree that the media reacted with much more spaces to cover this conference and a lot more has felt the need of disaster reduction.
A safer world we long and why not start today!

ポートピアホテルの大和田の間ではあまりびっくりするようなことは無かった。
み んな具体的な目標が盛り込まれていない文書が出来上がっても満足だった。すべ ての参加国が防止を優先的な課題の１つとすることは少なくとも合意したわけだから。まぁそうだよなぁ。毎日解決しなければならない問題は山ほどあって、破 壊的な大災害に襲われて初めて予防の必要性に気づくんだから。
インド洋の悲劇が会議への興味を高めたけど、成果はあまり魅力的なものではなかった。少なくとも会議のためにメディアがもっと紙面や時間を割くようにしたことに異議はないだろうし、防災の必要性が前より感じられたことも間違いない。
安全な世界を願ってやまないわけだから、きょうから始めようよ！

long　切望する、熱望する、あこがれる
　longって長いって意味だよね。
　自分に長く思えるということはそれほど切望しているということ。
　longのこういう使い方はliteratureやpoetryでよく見られる。
　まぁ、こんな会議を取材したんだから、
　少しぐらい情緒的になってもいいよね！
