We live in an unsafe world. The city is vulnerable, the countryside is aging.
Welfare, education, health, finance... there are too many problems we have to think about everyday, but at least today, on Disaster Prevention Day, more than a million people cared to think a little about the deadliest and shocking issue that problably would never be solved in our disaster-full nation.
With so many catastrophes reported everyday in this planet, I sometimes daydream of creating a world without natural hazards, but I understand that such creation means killing our Earth and building something artificial enough to make us stop our blood to flow.
Protecting against disasters ain't any fantasy. Taking steady measures like building quake-resistant edifices and step by step efforts like repeating sober drills are the most realistic ways to accomplish something.
I only hope that people who take their time and spend their expenses for these pains could be honored, as they will be the ones that wouldn't need help and even save others when a real disaster strikes...
I woke up early at around 4:30 and went to the JMA to cover the national drill for the expected Tokai Earthquake.

俺たちは安全でない世界に住んでいる。街は弱点だらけで、田舎は高齢化が進んでいる。
福祉、教育、健康、財政…毎日考えなきゃいけない課題がたくさんすぎだ。でも防災の日のきょうだけは１００万人以上の人たちが少しだけ最も命取りで衝撃的な課題について考えたようだ。災害だらけの国で解決されることのない課題だ。
この惑星でこれだけ毎日、大災害について報道されると、自然災害の無い世界を作ってみたいという空想を抱いてしまうぐらいだけど、それは結局は地球を殺して、俺たちの血が流れるのが止めてしまうような人工的な世界を作ることだということに違いないんだ。
災害予防はこんな空想でも何でもない。耐震化した建物をたてたりするような地道な対策を取ったり、地味な訓練を繰り返し行う着実な努力を進めたりすることが、その実現に向けた最も現実的な方法だ。
みんながこういう苦労に、時間と費用をかけること。それが報われるようになることをただ期待するだけだ。そういう人たちこそ、本当にでかい災害が襲ってきたときに、助けを必要とせず、さらに他の人たちを助けることができる人たちとなるからだ…。

６時半頃に記者が気象庁の玄関近くで頑張ってた。

昨日の心配は一時的に消えたようだ。今夜、タイガースがドラゴンズに８対１で圧倒したから。
でももう一つ心配なのは、日本に向かってきている台風１４号（ナビ）だ。

Disaster Prevention Day 防災の日
防災はdisaster preventionなので、
英訳だとこうなるようだ。
元々、関東大震災が起きた日だということは
前にも書いた。
訓練って意味がないと思う人もいるかも
知れないけど、参加さえしない人に
そういうことを言う資格は無いと思っている。
やらないより絶対やった方が良い。
これはどんな訓練にも共通することだと思う。
勿論、もっと効果的な訓練をするべきだという
考えも分かるが、これも基本的なことさえ
やってないヤツに高度な訓練をさせても
意味がない。災害だけはＯＪＴとは行かないのだ。
