Quagmire

Third day in JR West headquarters and the executives at the press conference still had not answered any of our questions about hints leading to the real cause of the accident.
Frustrations grew between the media representing the public, especially ones in needs of the truth, and the railroad company which just repeats its stance of not talking about subjects that could get sensitive with the police investigation and the tranport ministry accident investigation committee's analysis.
While the quagmire continued, the death toll has risen to 96 according to sources. Nothing but grief watching the families of the dead answering to interviews of news shows and reading about how they loved their lost ones in the papers.
The more I see the news reports and articles, the humiliation of not being able to report on more about why they have lost their families haunts my heart.

I know I myself have many incapablilities in reporting, but I believe our team is doing the best in our coverage of this catastrophe. Just want to tell the families in grief the truth of what really happened at the scene. The search will never end till the truth will be publicated to the world in anxiety!!

ＪＲ西日本本社で３日目。記者会見に出る幹部たちはいまだに事故原因につながるようなヒントについての答えを出してきていない。
いらだちは増すばかりだ。一般の人たちを代表するメディア、特に本当に真実が知りたい人たちを代表する。そして警察の捜査や国土交通省の事故調査委員会の分析に関わる話はできないというスタンスを繰り返すだけの鉄道会社。
泥沼の状態が続く間に、報道によると死者の数は９６にまで上った。悲しみ以外に何もない。遺族がニュースでインタビューに答えていたり、新聞で亡くした人をどれほど愛していたか書いているのを読んだりすると。
こうしたリポートや記事を見れば見るほど、なぜ家族を失わなければならなかったのかについてリポートができないことが恥ずかしいし、心が痛む。
自分の力不足を感じているが、取材班はこの大事故の報道に最大限の力を投じていると思う。とにかく悲しみにくれる家族に現場で何が起きていたのか伝えたいだけなんだ。真実がそれを切望する世界中に明らかにされるまで追究は終わらない。

　ＪＲ西日本での記者会見は泥沼状態に陥った。「置き石」という
　会社側に都合が良い情報は写真まで出して、積極的に広報し、
　それ以外、スピードに関わるようなことや車掌が話していること
　などは捜査に関わるから話せないと…。とにかく遺族の痛みを
　感じてくれれば、分かることなのではないだろうか。
　泥沼の状態から光が差してくる方向に進むよう祈るだけだ。
