I started slowly today, because I thought everybody else was going slowly as well, still in the middle of the Bon holidays. I was wrong as most of my colleagues were involved in the coverage of a massive power failure in the Metropolitan Area.
Luckily (?) my air conditioning wasn't interrupted and the subway service was not disrupted in my residential area. So I just went to work just like always. (I had a bit of a hangover returning home at 2AM from drinking, but that wasn't a big deal)
Well fortunately it was Bon season and the troubles at the center of our nation would've been worse at other days.
今日はゆっくりとしたスタート。だって他のみんなもゆっくりしていたから。お盆休みの真っ只中でね。間違ってた。同僚のほとんどは首都圏の大停電の取材に巻き込まれていたようだ。
幸いにも（？）うちのエアコンは止まらず、住まいの周辺の地下鉄にも影響は無かった。ということでいつも通り出勤した。（飲んで午前２時に帰宅して少し二日酔いだったが、そんなに問題にはならなかった）
まぁ幸い、お盆の期間だったし、他の日だったら国の中心もさらにヤバい状況になっていただろう。
Born to a Christian family and living a long time abroad, the Bon season had only a small meaning in my life, but maybe not any more. I'm at least happy my Japanese comrades take their time off which also gives me some room to take it easy.
クリスチャンの家庭に生まれて、長い間海外に暮らしていると、お盆というのは人生であまり重要なものではなかったけど、もうそうじゃないな。少なくとも日本人の仲間たちが休んでくれることでこっちもゆっくりできるというのは嬉しいね。

Sadly Officer finished sixth and I had no payback. He's still a 4 year old colt and filled with talent as the crop of a Kentucky Derby winner, Fusaichi Pegasus.

I finished off the night eating Yakiniku (grilled meat) with my friend at Azabu Juban where he lives. A very fortunate but rare way to start a week!
Now, I think it's time to turn on the switch.
From tomorrow I'm gonna start devoting my energies into work, so that I will never regret what I've been doing.
This is my simple but sincere manifesto.
Let's see how good of a man I am these several months!!
夜、麻布十番に住むダチと焼肉を食べて夜を終えた。とっても素晴らしいが、珍しい１週間の始まりとなった！
さぁ、スイッチを入れるときが来たようだ。
明日から仕事に全力を注入し始めよう。やってきたことに悔いを残さないように。
それが俺の簡単でうそ偽りのない公約だ。

manifesto マニフェスト、宣言書
イタリア語から来た言葉で、
もともとの意味ははっきりと示すこと。
日本では、1998年ごろから政治の世界で
使われるようになったが、2003年には、
公選法改正によって、配布できるようになり、
民主党に続いて各党が出すことになった。
アメリカでは、あんまし聞いたことがないが、
言葉としては、manifest(明白な、明らかにする）
というのがよく使われるので、意味はすぐに
伝わりそうな言葉だ。話はそれるが、
manifestが使われる政治的な語句としては、
Manifest Destinyが有名だ。
アメリカ合衆国が領土膨張政策を
神による使命であるとするもので、
領土拡大やアメリカ先住民たちの支配を
正当化するための言葉だ。
何かアメリカは未だにこの言葉を実践して
中東を中心とした世界を踏みにじっているように
思えてならない。
