Started the day early to attack the newly UNESCO-certified World Heritage site, the Shiretoko Peninsula from early morning.
But since we didn't have so much time, we had to move on efficiently!
10) Shiretoko Sightseeing Boat (Iouzan Route)
Luckily, we made the 10:30 tour boat to see the peninsula from the Okhotsk Sea.
An hour and a half cruise's last destination was the Kamuiwakka Waterfall.
...A little cold today, but riding a boat was good enough for a change!
After eating a nice lunch, a donburi topped with more than enough sea urchin egg paste, crabmeat, and salmon roe... we went on to the most popular visiting spot of the area.
11) Shiretoko Five Lakes
Five lakes in the wilderness with a variety of ways to look at fragments of nature and the Shiretoko Mountain Range including the Rausudake Volcano and Iouzan.
A ninety minute walk was heart healing especially for people like me drowned in the concrete city. Ironically with a bunch of tourists, I didn't have to get too confused in an unusual environment.
...I've always dreamed of living in nature, but never had done anything that would make it come true.
...Brewing some scotch and breeding a herd of horses, watching deers and foxes hanging around for fresh grass. That's some kind of dream you can see in Hokkaido too, but nevertheless I wouldn't dare live here, because I completely understand there wouldn't be such grass in the wintertime.
I'd freeze to death in minutes if I were to stay here the harshest season...
12) Oshinkoshin Waterfall
As we had another look at the observatory near the lakes, light rainfall had snapped me out of my dream, and we decided to run back south towards our hotel.
But before that, we stopped by at one more site, not to overlook one of the hundred best waterfalls of Japan!
After about a two hour drive, we made it to our hotel in Kussharo Lake.
We couldn't do any sightseeing as the rain became brutal ...but the spa and a gorgeous dinner was waiting nicely for us!
Watching TV and buying souvenirs, taking our time in a relaxed mood, the night went by quiet and easy.
(The Komadai Tomakomai High School's scandal was the top news in Hokkaido... depressing...)
The typhoon seemed to have wandered away to the east, and there will be no problem to leave this island back to Tokyo tomorrow...

きょうは新しくユネスコに世界遺産として登録されたスポットの知床半島を攻めるために朝早くから始動した。
でもあまり時間が無かったので、とにかく効率よく動かなければいけなかった！
１０）知床観光船（硫黄山航路）
ラッキーなことに、オホーツク海から半島を見渡す１０時半の観光船に間に合った。
写真：１時間半の航海の最後の目的地はカムイワッカの滝だった。
…きょうは少し肌寒かったが、船に乗るのは気分転換に十分だった！
写真：いい感じの昼食、十分なほどのウニ、カニ、イクラが乗っかった丼を食べたあと…最も人気のある観光スポットに向かった。
１１）知床五湖
自然の世界にたたずむ五つの湖では、あらゆる方向から様々な自然のかけらや羅臼岳火山と硫黄山を含む知床連山を見ることができる。
写真：９０分間の散歩は心をいやしてくれるものだった。特に俺のようなコンクリートな街で溺れている人間にとっては。皮肉にもたくさんの観光客がいたので、不慣れな環境にも混乱することはなかった。
…いつも自然界で生きられたらと夢見ていた。でもそれを叶えられるようなことは何もしてこなかった。
…スコッチを醸造して、馬をブリードしながら、鹿や狐が青々とした草を求めてうろうろしているのを眺める。北海道でも見られる夢なんだろうけど、それでもここで暮らしてみようという勇気はない。冬時にそんな草は無いことぐらいは十分すぎるほど分かってるつもりだから。
最も厳しい季節にここにいたら、ものの数分で凍死するだろうな…。
１２）オシンコシンの滝
五湖の近くの展望台でもう一回眺望を見ていると、軽く雨が降り出してきて、夢から覚めた。そしてホテルに向かって南に向かうことにした。
写真：でもその前にもう一か所だけ立ち寄った。日本の滝百選の一つを見逃さないように！
二時間ほど車で走って、屈斜路湖のホテルにたどり着いた。
雨が激しくなったので、観光はできなかった…でも温泉と素敵な夕食が心地よく待ってくれていた！
写真：テレビを見て、土産物を買って、のんびりとくつろぎ、夜は静かに優しく過ぎていった。（北海道では駒大苫小牧高校の問題がトップニュースだった…気が滅入るね…）
台風は東に過ぎ去ったようだ。あすこの島から東京に戻るのには何の支障もないようだ…。

Unesco-certifiedは「ユネスコに認められた」
学生時代に行った熊野も世界遺産に登録されたが、
本当に味わうには、もっとゆっくりと過ごさないと
いけないんやろうね。やっぱし学生のときじゃないと
できないかな、そんなこと…。
ちょっとそんなことも考えた一日だった。
