The agony of insomnia... but there you find a treasure!

I thought I was doing fine today. Up and awake in a new week... BUT at night, as I went to get some drinks with my colleagues, I completely blacked out for about half an hour when we got to a karaoke box in Shinjuku as I couldn't resist falling asleep...

Yes I didn't get enough sleep. Well no, I did have enough sleep.

...Acutually I had too much sleep this weekend, as I lay pratically dead for 15 hours each of those two days. But that led to the tragedy... I couldn't sleep at all on Sunday night!
I tried to get into bed after writing my diary as it was well after midnight... but couldn't shut my eyes as I wasn't sleepy at all... When this kind of malfunction occurs, I give up counting sheep and just read books or watch TV till I get sleepy...
And this time I didn't get sleepy as my optic and auditory nerves were taken away by a concert on television!


an Ethiopian girl (in the middle of the pic on the left) was introduced in the middle of the concert... a girl who was destined to die without aid... but after 20 years, she showed us what we can do! WOW!!
U2 had led LIVE AID decades ago and Bono still cares about the poor continent we would rather forget about... wish it'll be a hopeful 20 years coming up!

The recorded and edited broadcast of a concert on Fuji TV at around 2:30AM took me a tour to déjà vu as I realized LIVE 8 (http://www.live8live.com/ and http://www.live8.jp/) was a sequel to LIVE AID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Aid) with many artists returning to the stage after 20 years. I was a junior high kid in '85! And still all my favorite musicians are energetic as ever!!

...So this is why I had only about two hours of sleep today... But sometimes insomnia leads you to great treasures, right!?


タイトル：不眠症の苦痛…でもそこで宝物を見つけることも！

きょうは調子が良いと思ってた。起きて目も覚めて新しい週を迎えて…。でも夜になって同僚たちと飲みに行って、新宿のカラオケボックスに入ったときに、睡魔との戦いに負けて半時間ほど完璧に気を失った…。

そう。十分睡眠を取ってなかったんだ。いや、十分睡眠は取ってた。

？？

…実際には、今週末にたくさん寝過ぎてたんだ。二日とも１５時間ずつほぼ死ぬように寝てたから。でもそれが悲劇につながった…。日曜夜に全く眠れなかったんだ！
日記を書いたらすっかり夜中になったので、床につこうとした…でも目が閉じられない…。こういう機能不全に陥ると、羊を数えるのはあきらめて本を読んだり、テレビを見たりして眠くなるのを待つ…。
そして今回は全く眠くならなかった。視覚と聴覚の神経はテレビで流れるコンサートに奪われてしまって！

写真：エチオピアの女の子（左の写真の真ん中）がコンサートの途中で紹介されてた…援助無しには死ぬしかなかった女の子だ…でも２０年後に彼女が我々に何ができるのかを魅せてくれた！すごいね！！
Ｕ２が何十年も前のライブエイドを引っ張った。ボノはまだ、俺たちが忘れてしまった方が楽なこの貧しい大陸のことを気にかけているんだ…次の２０年は希望に満ちたものになるといいけど！

録画・編集されたコンサートはフジテレビで午前２時半頃に流れて、デジャブーの旅に連れて行ってくれた。ライブ８（「エイト」）ってライブエイドの続編だったことに気づいたから。２０年後のステージにたくさんのアーティストたちが再度集まって。８５年には俺はまだ中学生のガキだった！それなのに大好きなミュージシャンたちはこれまで以上にエネルギッシュだとは！！

…だからこれが今日２時間ぐらいしか寝てない理由だ…。でも時々、不眠症もすてきな宝物に導いてくれる。でしょ！？
