just staring at my computer with dangerous imaginations of what's going on in a country far away...
Usually a peaceful overnight duty turned into a sort of a nightmare. As we were about to take a short nap, flash news about a Japanese Akihiko Saito falling into the hands of a Iraqi armed forces rushed in.
There weren't abundant info about what happened to our fellow countrymen except the web site of forces called the Ansar al-Sunnah Army telling tales of an ambush killing others except this one Japanese. Why? was out the question and we waited for our international division to feed us more info.
As the time passed like lightning, all the media had eyes on a security company employing ex-soldiers called Hart Security. They confirmed the missing of the Japanese employee, and we eventually learned Mr. Saito is an ex-JGSDF soldier (http://www.jda.go.jp/jgsdf/index_e.html) and also a graduate of the French Legion Etrangere. As professional as he is, all we could do is hope for his survival. How helpless the media are in these kind of cases... Well at least we learned a lot about the French Foreign Legion!

いつもなら平和な泊まり勤務も悪夢みたいなもんに変わった。そろそろ短い仮眠でも取ろうかと言ってるときに日本人の斎藤昭彦さんがイラクの武装勢力の手に落ちたという速報が飛び込んできた。
同胞に何があったのか十分に情報がなかった。ただ、アンサール・スンナ軍という勢力のウェブサイトで、待ち伏せ攻撃を行った結果、この１人の日本人以外の全員が殺されたという話が伝えられているだけだ。なぜ？と聞いても仕方が無く、とりあえずうちの国際部がもう少し情報を供給してくれるのを待った。
時間が落雷のように早く過ぎ、すべてのメディアが退役兵を雇い入れるハート・セキュリティーという警備会社に目を向けていた。この会社が日本人の職員が行 方不明になっていることを確認したほか、我々もそのうち斎藤さんが元陸自隊員で、フランスの外人部隊を出ていたことも知った。
彼のように専門的なら我々は彼の生存を祈るしかなかった。こんなときにメディアは無力だな…。まぁ、少なくともフランス外人部隊のことはかなり勉強したね！

ちなみに積極的に攻撃する「奇襲攻撃」は
surprise attackかsneak attack。
