◆Soccer: Japan will give Brazil tough test, says Pele
BONN, June 4 KYODO
Brazilian legend Pele says Brazil will be in for a tough time when the five-time world champions face Japan in their final first-round match at the World Cup.
''Japan are a strong team that are quick and move well,'' Pele said on a sports show on German television on Saturday.
''Brazil will be in for a very tough game against Japan and I think that match will be one of the highlights of the first round,'' he said on Sports Studio.
Japan have never beaten Brazil at senior level but came close to causing a massive upset when they held the South Americans to a 2-2 draw at last summer's Confederations Cup.
Japan stunned Brazil 1-0 at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 in a match the Japanese press refer to as the ''Miracle of Miami.''

「日本は早くそしてよく動く強いチームだ」と土曜日、ペレがドイツテレビのスポーツ番組で話した。
「ブラジルは日本ととても厳しい試合に臨むことになるだろう。そしてその試合は１次リーグで最も興味深い試合の１つとなるだろう」とスポーツスタジオで話した。
日本はＡ代表レベルでブラジルに勝ったことはないが、去年の夏のコンフェデ杯でこの南米チームに２－２で引き分けに抑えたときに、もうちょっとで大番狂わせを演出するところだった。
日本の報道陣が「マイアミの奇跡」としている１９９６年のアトランタ五輪の試合で、日本は１－０で勝ってブラジルを唖然とさせた。
