M7.8 Quake near Tonga - no destructive tsunami

タイトル：トンガ付近でＭ７．８地震 － 津波の被害なし

Right after I got my ass at home, tsunami infos were announced by PTWC and JMA.
Reluctantly(?), I ran to my office to cover the news.
Fortunately, no destructive tsunami was observed, as the initial magnitude of the quake near Tonga announced at 8.1, was later revised to 7.8.
A fairly small tsunami of about 20cm was observed near the epicenter and there was no way it can destroy the coasts of Japan.

M8 quakes aren't rare... but never heard of large tsunamis here...

ちょうど家にたどり着いた後、太平洋津波警報センターと気象庁から津波情報が発表された。
しぶしぶ（？）、ニュースを埋めるために職場に走った。
幸いなことに、破壊的な津波は観測されなかった。一時、８．１と発表されていたトンガ付近の地震の規模は、後ほど７．８に修正された。
２０センチほどの比較的に小さい津波が震源近くで観測され、それが日本の沿岸を破壊することは有り得なかった。
