The announcement at 6PM(JST), as always, started out by Norweigian. But after some words we guessed "The Nobel Prize for 2005 goes to...", the Norweigian professor said in English "International Atomic..." and we all knew the Prize did not go to the Nihon Hidankyo...
I heard from my colleague the hall where the Nihon Hidankyo waited for the good news was packed with every major press agency including the foreign agencies.
We were all disappointed to hear the IAEA was chosen, as we all know they do not need the international fame and the prize money to go on with their business. And who let the North Koreans leave the NPT? Did they stop the Americans going into war with Iraq? Of course the IAEA isn't the only one to be blamed of... They've achieved much more... Yes we know that...
It's just heartlosing... With the prize the Hidankyo could've earned some new breathing room setting for a wider support, especially the younger. The Nihon Hidankyo tend to be stamped as a Communists' activity though I personally believe they have a wider variety of support. (I think a peaceful rightist and the Americans dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki can at least agree atomic bombs used as military options are evil... hey Mr. Bush, weapons of mass destrucitons can't be permitted, right?)
Well so long for the plans to bring a new wave of peaceful frenzy from Japan. Let's go back to the everyday process of promoting peace peacefully...
夜 ６時（日本時間）の発表はいつも通りノルウェー語で始まった。たぶん「２００５年のノーベル平和賞が与えられるのは…」 と言ってるんだろうなぁっていう幾つかの言葉のあと、ノルウェー人の教授は英語で「インターナショナル・アトミック…」と言ったので、俺たちはみんな日本 被団協が受賞をしなかったことを悟った…。
同僚に聞いたところ、日本被団協が良い知らせを待っていた会場は、海外メディアを含んだすべての大手マスコミでぎっしりだったそうな。
ＩＡＥＡ （国際原子力機関）が選ばれてみんながっくし。彼らは仕事を続けるのに国際的な名声や賞金はいらないじゃないかってみんな思ってるんだよね。それ に誰が北朝鮮をＮＰＴ（核拡散防止条約）から脱退させてしまったのか？アメリカがイラクと戦争するのを止めたのか？勿論、ＩＡＥＡだけで責められるもん じゃない…。彼らはもっとたくさんのことを成し遂げたさ…それは知ってるよ…。
ただ落胆しただけだ…。受賞すれば被団協も特に若い層に支持を拡大するために動き回る幅が広がったこ とだろう。日本被団協は共産党の活動だと刻印を押されがちだが、個人的にはもっと広い層の支持を得ていると信じている。（平和志向の右派も広島と長崎に爆 弾を落としたアメリカ人も軍事目的として原爆が使われることが悪だということぐらいは納得できるだろう…おーいブッシュさん、大量破壊兵器は持ってちゃい けない。でしたよね？）
まぁ、とりあえず日本から平和的な盛り上がりの新たな波を起こす計画は置いとくしかないわな。平和を平和的に訴える日々の作業に戻るしかないよね…。
just about an hour before the announcement the IAEA became the favorite (at the odds of 2.60 to 1) with Nihon Hidankyo and Mr. Senji Yamaguchi the second favorite (at 2.80 to 1) on the Australian bookmaker site Centrebet (http://www.centrebet.com/). They were both tied (at the odds of 2.75 to 1) as the favorite just before the bet was closed.
and the winner goes to... IAEA and its Director Mohamed ElBaradei...

平和運動って少しぐらい
脱線する余裕が無いと息苦しくなって
運動が頓挫することが多いと思う。
被爆者の方々が亡くなる中、
被団協のような組織には、
少し動き回る余裕が必要となるだろう。
ノーベル賞のようなものに
頼ってはいけないんだろうけど、
受賞していれば運動の幅が広がったに
違いないとやはり残念に思ってしまう。
