For a long time, the people have called us "The Fourth Estate".
Fortunately and unfortunately, we still hold that position.
I know we still have the ferocious power to get information faster than anyone else which could even be a matter of life and death. But we of course do not have a free hand to control life and death like the Almighty. The freedom of press does not mean we can become the Almighty, but sometimes the temptation to become something more than The Fourth Estate entices the leaders.

The leaders once should've been hot-blooded journalists. Where did they lose themselves... I must ask myself and many young reporters working together in the frontline of journalism. Can we ever fight off the temptation of becoming the Almighty?
We shall not forget the lessons these two major television and newspaper organizations have learned...

長い間、人々は我々のことを「第４の権力」と呼んできた。
幸いにも、そして不幸にも、まだその立場にある。
人の生き死ににも関わるような情報を誰よりも早く手に入れられる恐ろしい力をいまだに持っていることは分かっている。でもそれは全能なる神のように生き死 にをコントロールする自由な裁量権を持っているという訳ではないことは言うまでもない。報道の自由は全能なる神になれるという意味ではない。でも時々第４ の権力以上のものになろうという誘惑が経営者たちをそそのかすことがある。

経営者たちも昔は熱血ジャーナリストだったはずだ。どこで自分を失ったのだろう…。自分とジャーナリズムの前線で一緒に働く他の若い記者たちに聞いてみるしかない。全能なる神になろうという誘惑に打ち勝てるのだろうか？
この２つの大きなテレビと新聞社が学んだことを忘れないようにしよう…。

偉くなって権力を持つと
人間ってなぜ誘惑に弱くなるんだろう。
その権力にしがみついて、
神の領域に近づこうとする。
俺も偉くなるとそんなヤツに
なっちゃうんだろうか…。
だったら、偉くなんてなりたくない。

I came home really late tonight as I'm so unfamiliar with the union shop job.
Trying to do fruitful talks about our future, but sadly with no prospects of our well being as a media organization.
Doing our best is all we are asked for. Simple as that!
きょうはかなり遅く帰ってきた。労働組合の仕事には結構、慣れてないから。
将来について建設的な話し合いをしようとしているが、残念ながらメディア組織としての将来像がはっきりしない中でだ。
最大限の努力をすることだけが求められていることだ。ただそれだけなんだよ！
