Again!?

did I see this two weeks ago!?

As I was looking though some papers at my office, I saw one of my bosses looking at the international news division carefully and a little worried. I didn't pay so much attention because I thought they were working on the surprise announcement of raising the value of yuan by the Chinese.
...I was wrong!

...A few minutes later, Kyodo news hit the alarm and reported of blasts in London, and I thought it was another nightmare. Well, fortunately I was wrong!

Of course the staff taking care of the international news were running around, but as I was monitoring the Reuters site and BBC, there were early reports that one of the blast's origin was a nail bomb. News came in that there were four blasts including one in a bus just like two weeks ago, but there were no serious injuries reported. There were even reports that the Scotland Yard had not considered the incidents a "major" one. Well eventually the police chief did say it was serious, but who'd imagine to say "it isn't a major one" knowing what had happened two weeks ago even though it was at a point when the infos were not straightened out yet.
Hearing of "nail bombs" and "four blasts with one from a bus", I even thought it could be a juvenile doing some copy-cat joke that no one would laugh at.

...Well I hope there weren't anybody gravely hurt, and took off heading home wishing luck to my colleagues taking care of the news updates!

職場で書類を見ていたら、上司の一人が注意深く、そして心配そうに国際部の方を見ているのに気付いた。中国が元の切り上げを突然発表したことに対応しているんだろうと思ってあんまり注意を払わなかった。…間違ってた！

…数分後、共同通信がピーコを鳴らして、ロンドンで爆発があったことを伝えた。また悪夢の始まりだと思った。まぁ、幸いにも間違ってた！

勿 論、国際ニュースを扱う職員たちは走り回っていたが、ロイターのサイトとＢＢＣをモニターしていたら、早くから爆発の原因がクギ爆弾だと早くから伝えて いた。２週間前のように４か所で爆発があり、１箇所はバスでのものが含まれているということだった。でも大きなけがは無いとのことだった。スコットラン ド・ヤードが一連の事件が「重大」なものではないと認識しているという情報さえ入っていた。まぁ、時間が経って警察の幹部が重大だとは言っていたが、２週 間前に起きたことを知っていて誰が「重大な話じゃないよ」なんて言うだろうか。情報が整理できていない段階だったとは言えだ。
「クギ爆弾」や「４つの爆発でそのうち１つはバスから」と聞いて、どっかのガキんちょが誰も笑わない模倣犯的なジョークをかましているのかと思ったぐらいだ。

…まぁ誰も重傷を負ってないことを祈って急いで家路についた。ニュースの差し替えをしなければならない同僚たちの幸運を祈って！

　少し爆発物に詳しいガキんちょの仕業かと本当に思った。
　日本では子供が爆発物で事件を起こすのが後を絶たないから。
　そういえば通ってたアメリカの中学校で小さいパイプ爆弾
　（pipe bomb)がトイレで爆発したという事件があったなぁ。
　事件報道をやればやるほど、copy-catも怖い。
　視聴率で見ている人たちの数は少しは分かるかも知れないけど、
　見ている人のモラルのレベルまでは知ることはできないから…。
