OK. Again about two news stories that rang my bell.
Nomo of the Devil Rays (http://tampabay.devilrays.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/wrapup.jsp?ymd=20050615&content_id=1090802&vkey=wrapup2004&fext=.jsp&c_id=tb) accomplished one of his goals by winning his 200th victory combining his wins in Japan as a Kintetsu Buffalo and major leaguer.
I used to go to the Fujiidera ballpark in Osaka to see Hideo Nomo fight the Seibu Lions and their slugger Kazuhiro Kiyohara. The match between a fighting tornado pitcher versus the rough but affectionate hitter was one of the ecstacies of Japanese baseball in the early 90's. Time flies and the tornado pitcher is a treasure of the big leagues and the passionate home run hitter is part of the most conservative Yomiuri Giants. But I still care for them because I know how they were in their origins. Nomo's goals are still to be achieved, whatever they are and I will be very happy to see them as I live on.
Another story... a sad one... was about criminals holding dozens of children hostages at an international school in Cambodia. Japanese kids were two of the hostages and luckily they were safe after security forces freed them by attacking the outlaws. But a Canadian child was killed leaving all of us in despair.
Taking life... which can't be calculated with monetary values... is the dirtiest crime of all, especially taking lives of innocent children. But we all must be wise not to forget that inhumane murderers are around... ANYWHERE!
All I can do is pray that this young soul will rest in peace!

タイトル：喜びと悲しみ！
予想通り、４日連続の飲み会。きょうは会社のことを真剣に話し合った。そう。自分たちの未来については本気で考えてるし、これには自分の会社の将来も当然 含まれている。自分にとって「最良」になるように何でもやってみるということではなく、「少しでも良い」ところになってほしい。みんなも同じように思って くれればなぁ。少しでも良いようにと望む以外に何を望むのさ？

さて、また目に付いたニュースを２つ。
デビルレイズの野茂が日本の近鉄バッファローズ時代と大リーグを合わせた通算２００勝目を挙げて、目標の一つを達成した。（オフィシャルＨＰのＵＲＬ）
昔、大阪の藤井寺球場に行って、野茂英雄が西武ライオンズと強打者の清原和博と戦うのをよく見に行ったもんだ。戦うトルネード投手と荒々しく感情的なバッ ターの対戦は９０年前半の日本野球界の快感の一つだった。時は流れ、トルネードピッチャーは大リークの宝となり、激情型のホームランヒッターは最も保守的 な読売巨人軍の一員となった。でも、彼らのことは気になってしまう。昔のころを知ってるから。野茂が考える目標はまだあるだろう。それを見れたら嬉しいだ ろうなぁ。
もう１つの話は…悲しい話だが…カンボジアのインターナショナルスクールでたくさんの子供たちが悪い奴らに人質になったことだ。日本人の子供２人も人質に なったが、保安隊が無法者たちを襲撃して子供たちを解放したときには、幸いにも無事だった。でもカナダ人の子供が殺され、みんなを悲しませた。
命を取ること…金ではとても価値を計算できない命を取ることは…最も汚い犯罪だ。特に何の罪もない子供の命をだ。でも、忘れてはいけないのは、無慈悲な殺人者たちがうろうろしていることだ…。どこにでも！
この若い魂が安らかに眠ることを祈ることしかできない！
