spent most of the day out of my office...cloudy... in front of the PM's official residence; the article in question, as least for me; As I was watching TV in a press club, starting pitcher Nishiguchi of Seibu Lions was one out away from a no hitter against the Yomiuri Giants; his helpless smiling face when the should-be last batter knocked the ball into the stands... Nishiguchi won the game after retiring the batter after the spoiling homerun. That's Life, isn't it!?
In today's Yomiuri Shimbun (Shimbun=Newspaper), there was an article with the signature of its Osaka headquarters' Social Department's chief, apologizing for "unappropriate behaviors" at the JR West's press conferences. It was unfortunate that not just the net wackos, but the general public was criticizing a Yomiuri staff writer pressing on the speakers at the press conferences with angry voices. But as I was sitting near this writer at least for 3 days worth of press conferences, I had no strange feelings with his attitude.
In Kansai, it was just normal that Osaka Yomiuri's writers shouting at sources like thunder with a strong Kansai dialect. It was always their role to throw the fast ball right in the inside to brush the batter back. Then Sankei Shimbun follows with curve balls perplexing the opponent. And Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun take turns to try the sneak play to get the runners out asking technical and delicate questions. (sometimes not understanding how it relates to the topic...)
It was the media circus that can throw and play various types of ball to get 3 outs in each inning. When you're all alone talking to a source you have to do all of this on your own, or you can't fix up a good report.
So I still can't understand Yomiuri's decision to give out an apology like this. The other members of the media should have had benefits from this guy's attitude. I even got a little emotional when the JR West's executives were answering like robots. Can you let them go without giving them a sense of sadness and anger of the victims!? Well OK, we shouldn't be emotional, as we're not Maffias or Yakuzas using pens as violent pistols, but without some empathy will the media ever take the lead to fight against the evil? I think we've arrived at the point of no return. Letting the public check the media is important, but this time I think the public has gone too far!

きょうの読売新聞でＪＲ西日本の記者会見での「不適切な態度」について謝罪する大阪本社・社会部長の署名入り記事が載った。ツイてなかったのは、ネット野郎たちだけでなく、一般の人たちも一緒になって、会見で声を荒らげて発表者たちに詰め寄っていた読売の記者を批判したことだった。俺がこの記者と一緒に少なくとも３日分の記者会見で同席した限りでは、彼の態度に違和感は感じなかった。
関 西では、大阪読売の記者たちが取材先にきつい関西弁で雷のように怒鳴ることは普通だ。内角の直球を投げてバッターをのけぞらせるのはいつも彼らの役目 だ。そして産経新聞が相手を困惑させるカーブを投げて続く。そして朝日新聞と毎日新聞が交互に、裏をかくプレーでランナーを仕留めるために専門的で細かい 質問を投げかける。（何の関係があるのかよくわからん時もあるが…）
メディアのサーカスが繰り出すあらゆる種類のボールやプレーで毎回３つのアウトを取ることができるのだ。ネタもとに一人っきりで話すときはこれを全部自分一人でやらなければならない。そうしなければ良いルポは整えられない。
だ から読売が謝罪の決断を下したことは理解できない。他のメディアの人たちも奴の態度で利益を得たはずだ。俺だってＪＲ西日本の幹部どもがロボットのよう に質問に答えているのに少し感情的になったぐらいだ。被害者の悲しみと怒りを感じさせずに奴らをほっといていいのか！？ まぁそうだな。あんまり感情的に なっちゃいけないのは分かる。俺たちはペンを暴力的な短銃に置き換えたマフィアやヤクザではない。でも少しの感情移入でも無ければ、メディアは悪を追求す る戦いを先頭切ってやるだろうか？ 俺は今、引き返せないところに来ていると思う。世論にメディアを監視させることは大切だと思うが、今回はさすがに行き過ぎたと思う！

generalをはさんでも使ってる。俺たち記者は一般の人たちを
代表して取材することが多いが、自分の感情が左右することは
当然ある。やりたいこと、伝えたいことはそれぞれの記者の
宝であり、それを失ったら提灯記事だけ書いておけば良い。
しかし、感情移入が過ぎて、偏重記事になってしまう恐れも
出る。そのために多くの人が目を通して記事やリポートは
出来上がる。しかし、緊急なリポートや速報記事、そして
今回のような記者会見場でのやりとりは、そんな悠長なことを
してられない。あのｊＲの態度を見れば、声を荒らげる
the public「一般の人」もたくさんいたのではないだろうか。
