High ratings...

watching Kimutaku in "Engine". enviable as always...
I got home a little late... But as I'd heard from my collegue something I couldn't ignore, my hours of sleep was trimmed again.
The news was that Fuji TV's drama serial's first story aired yesterday hit the 25% rating mark. Really? I asked him back. Takuya Kimura, known as "Kimutaku" has always been incredible with ratings. Setting this guy as the main character has been the right formula for years to get the best ratings. Several years back he had hit an average 34.3% with "Hero", the highest drama serial after Y2K. It's quite hard to get an average 20% these days in a serial and I was on a watch whether this season's will get any better numbers...

Well there goes my precious hours of sleep as I watched the recording of "Engine" (http://www.fujitv.co.jp/en/program/new_prog/d_engine.html) broadcasted 9PM yesterday (Monday) . Not at all amazing nor exciting, and Kimutaku plays a role like always. A humorous but passionate outlaw devoting to somekind of cruel challenge with some elements of romance. Hey! we've seen the same type of stories again and again! ...Just can't understand why, but maybe many fans are feeling relief he's always the same type o' guy...
Alas, Kimutaku is the same age as I am, and far from what he's achieved, I'll at least not give up to be some kinda "Hero" in my field!!

家に着いたのはちょっと遅めだったけど…でも、同僚が無視できないことを口走ったのでまた睡眠時間が削られた。どんな話か というと、昨日放送されたフジテレビの連続ドラマの第一話が25％超えを果たしたということだ。マジで？同僚に聞き返してしまった。木村拓哉、そうあのキ ムタクはすげー視聴率をたたき出す訳よ。こいつを主人公に据えちゃうと魔法が働いてここ数年は必ず「いい数字」をとっちゃうんだよね。数年前、「ヒーロー」で平均で34.3％っていう2000年以降、連続ドラマとして最も高いのを出してるんだよね。最近は平均で20％を取るのもかなり難しいのに。今クールはこれより良い数字を取れるのか注目してたんだけど…。
まぁ、それで貴重な睡眠時間はとんだ訳よ。昨日（月曜）の夜９時に放送された録画の「エンジン」（英語のURL）を見て。全然すげーと思わなかっ たし、盛り上がりもしなかった。キムタクはいつものような役どころだし。ちょっと滑稽だけど熱いアウトローで何かきっつい挑戦に挑む訳ですよ。ロマンスの 要素もからめてね。おい！同じような話、何回も見てるよね！　…どうしても分からないんだよなぁ。でも多くのファンはキムタクがいつも同じような奴だって ことに安心するのかも知れないなぁ。悲しいかな、キムタクは俺とおない年なんだな。彼が達成したことからほど遠いけど、俺だって自分の分野でそれっぽい 「ヒーロー」になることはあきらめないぞ！

ratings　視聴率　正確にはprogram ratingsやtelevision ratings　アメリカでもこうしたnumbersは重要だよね。スポンサーが厳しいし。いつもratingsの話を聞くのはアメリカの最大の祭典、スーパーボウルの時。日本では調べてるのは、ビデオリサーチ社（http://www.videor.co.jp/index.htm）だけど、アメリカではニールセン（http://www.nielsenmedia.com/）。よく聞く会社だけど、検証したことありません…。映画がいつも「全米ナンバーワン」になるのと同じぐらい怪しいかも…。
